Chosen!

CHOSEN! What a message to instill in young hearts today. In a world that often tells our children they are useless or unwanted, how important it is to declare from God’s Word the undeniable truth that we are chosen – chosen by God with a purpose and plan for our life. The life of Paul as seen in these five lessons demonstrates God’s power and purpose in an individual’s life. The stories selected in this series are full of ordinary people accomplishing great things for God’s kingdom. Children can see and experience the exciting times of the early church and, in this be challenged to also be used by God for His kingdom.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

LESSON ONE: Chosen Set in the house from which Saul was lowered in a basket from the wall of Damascus, this is the story of how God chose Saul and how Saul responded to God on His terms. But after his conversion, Saul was so zealous for God and the gospel that he encountered some very severe persecution. To save his life, his friends lowered him in a basket out the window of a house that was built into the city wall. LESSON TWO: You Can’t Keep A Good Man Down This lesson is set in a deserted place just outside Lystra where they would have dragged Saul and left him for dead. LESSON THREE: Jail House Rock Paul and Silas’ experience in Philippi was the best and the worst, and then the best, again. It’s a great story to tell with a great message and meaning for us today. Set just outside the Philippian jail, I suggest a woman tell this story as Lydia, Philippi’s seller of purple; if a man teaches this lesson, he could then tell the story as the Philippian jailer. LESSON FOUR: WHERE IN THE WORLD IS MARS HILL? The narrative for this lesson is in the “AGORA” (the market place of Athens), where Paul first encountered the philosophers. It was here that some Epicurean and Stoic philosophers exchanged ideas with Paul, and began to dispute with him. The AGORA was the place where most people came for social interaction, as well as to do their shopping. A creative story teller can re-create the bazaar-like atmosphere for the agora and have a blast with the story. LESSON FIVE: AN ALL-EXPENSES-PAID TRIP TO ROME It takes a TIME TUNNEL to get into the room for this story. The story-teller dresses in an Indiana Jones/archeologist costume and takes the children back in time to a Roman prison to tell them the story of Paul’s Roman imprisonment.

Director’s Kit

In this kit, we provide a Seminar Audio CD (a recording of a Creative VBS Seminar which Debbie did at the Oklahoma Christian Education Association Convention), detailed explanations and suggestions for working with “Creative VBS”, the cover letters, schedules and some miscellaneous Teacher’s Packet information. The Seminar Audio CD will be helpful in understanding and using the written material more effectively, and since it represents a “first hearing” for Creative VBS, it can also serve as a motivational tool for you and your staff. The letters and schedules are working examples and can serve as a starting place – a “flow chart” – for you to tailor your own VBS. The Lesson Rotation Schedule is the key schedule, and many churches have used it exactly as it is. This is up to you, and is put in to simply be an aid. The General Schedules show how it can fit together. Also, included is a sample lesson.

Dare To Be A Daniel

Dare To Be A Daniel
This lesson series is a lot of fun and has been a favorite of many. The exemplary lives of Daniel and his three friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, are well worth sharing with children today. Despite overwhelming odds these young Jewish boys set a course of faithfulness for their lives that God blessed time and time again. Their faith is a standard for us today.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

LESSON ONE: Dare to Obey, “In The King’s Service” Lesson One transports your young students to ancient Babylon to the lower regions of King Neubchadnezzar’s palace. There among the other captives from Judah, they’ll meet four extraordinary Hebrew boys who dare to obey the laws of their God – the laws they had learned and followed from childhood. Choosing not to eat the King’s food, they are blessed for their obedience to God’s Law, and enter into the King’s service. LESSON TWO: Dare to Pray Not Panic, “Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream” Panic is spreading in Babylon. The king has issued a death warrant for all his wise men. This includes Daniel, Shadrach Meshach and Abednego. The king’s dream, unexplained, is a mystery to all but Daniel who seeks out his three friends to pray and seek God’s revelation. Set in the king’s bedroom, your students will listen in awe as the dream unfolds. LESSON THREE: Dare to Stand Alone, “The Fiery Furnace” “Seven times hotter – hotter than it ought to be…Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego.” You can almost feel the heat in this lesson as the furnace takes center stage. What courage, what faith – to stand alone when everyone else bows to the idol. The example of going against the flow despite the consequences is a powerful testimony in this dramatic lesson of bravery and commitment. The surprise ending is one children never forget! LESSON FOUR: Dare to Give God the Glory, “Belshazzar’s Feast” Pride is a terrible thing to witness and a terrible thing to embrace. The arrogant King Belshazzar sees the hand writing on the wall and pays with his life and kingdom for his blasphemy of the true living God. Set in the banquet hall of the palace, your students will also read the words, “MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN” and learn one of God’s eternal laws…a man reaps what he sows. LESSON FIVE: Dare to Have Faith, “Daniel and the Lion’s Den” One of the most beloved Bible stories of all children, Daniel and the Lion’s Den come to life in this lesson room. Done with the aid of DeLion and puppets or told by the Lion Keeper, this lesson reaches down through the centuries to challenge and excite children of all ages as they witness the faith of this “extra – ordinary” man.

LESSON ONE: Water into Wine Come join the celebration! Years have passed since the wedding, and the anniversary party is tonight! Sit for a while on the back porch and visit with the servants as they prepare for the big event. Perhaps they will even let you taste some of the delicacies they have just taken from the outdoor oven. Don’t knock over those stone water pots, though. They are special at this house. A miracle took place inside their earthen bodies, and the change that happened within them was just the beginning of the changes that have been taking place in the hearts of men and women ever since! LESSON TWO: Blind Eyes See Don’t get lost! The market place is the busiest place in town. If you are not careful you will find yourself apart from everyone else. Can you imagine what it would be like to not be able to see where you are going in a place like this? Hey, that reminds me of a story about Jesus. But wait, there’s the tailor’s shop. He can tell us all about it. He used to be blind, you know. That is, until he met Jesus! LESSON THREE: Wind and Waves Nothing can be better than coming down to the sea shore early in the morning when you need to get away. It’s such a peaceful place. The sea breeze, the smell of the salt air, and the mist in your face, and —ugh…what’s that other smell? Ooh, that other smell isn’t so good. Someone must be cleaning fish. Why, it’s Bartholomew, one of Jesus’ disciples! He’s got the coals going, and I’ll bet we might even get a bit of breakfast. But the best part will be the story I know Bartholomew will tell you. You see, he knows a different side of this calm sea… LESSON FOUR: Sorrow to Joy Let’s join Jairus in the Synagogue and hear how Jesus turned his sorrow to joy! Shhh… Quiet, please. The Synagogue is a very important place, and we must show special reverence here. Girls, sit over there, please. Boys, you can sit here. Do you all have your head coverings? Jesus, My Alpha & Omega

Jesus, My Alpha & Omega
Jesus, MY ALPHA AND OMEGA, is a lesson series with an all-encompassing theme. In this series the children will journey through time and space from creation to heaven itself as they learn of the broad extent of Jesus’ involvement with man. It is an Old and New Testament series in one –from the beginning to the end! Your students will find Jesus as they look again at the creation of our beautiful world. They will meet prophets who searched intently for Jesus and realize how blessed they are to know Him. They’ll visit the stable, experience the Last Supper and even meet an angel!

Additional DescriptionMore Details

LESSON ONE: Jesus, The Alpha: “Creation” Open this door and experience the wonders of creation itself. A science teacher will welcome the children and walk them through 7 stations depicting the days of creation. Murals, plants, aquariums, birds in cages, gerbils, stars on the ceiling all work in tandem to teach and explore the truth of creation, with Jesus at His Father’s side. Reliable evolution-vs.-creation resource material is also included for older classes. LESSON TWO: Jesus, The Alpha: “The Secret” Walk through this door into a prophet’s home during Old Testament times. Listen as the puppet, P.A., charmingly introduces the children to a prophet’s life. A life that spoke God’s messages and promises to the people of that day. Learn of the great promise of a coming King of Kings. Search intently with the prophets as they long to know this secret. Who would he be? When would he come? Where will he be born? What will be his name? LESSON THREE: Jesus, The Alpha: “The Visit” This door opens into a musty stable. Lanterns, hay and tools set the stage. What’s that in the corner…an old manger? Looks like it hasn’t been used in years. Now grown, the inn keeper’s daughter unravels the events of that special night, 35 years ago, and wonders about the great teacher and miracle worker who walks the countryside. Could there be a connection? Jesus, God’s very own Son, has come and now walks these few years on our planet. Feel the excitement once again. LESSON FOUR: Jesus, The Alpha: “The Last Supper” There’s more to this story! Before you go through this door, however, take off your shoes. We’re going to recline and have dinner tonight. But this special dinner is one young and old will remember for a long time. Roasted lamb, herbs, grape juice…all tools to teach about Jesus, our Savior. LESSON FIVE: Jesus, The Omega: “Heaven And Our Coming King” This door glitters and shines. What could wait for these young learners behind it? Once again, shoes are removed, not because of a meal, but because we are entering Holy Ground. The door swings open and an angel welcomes all. Silver and gold shine; sheers hang and glimmer in the light. No eye has seen, but we can call attention upward as children learn from God’s word what waits for them when Jesus comes.

Come Back

Come Back

Come Back to God… Come Back to the Bible… Come Back to VBS… Come Back tomorrow… Come Back all summer…

Additional DescriptionMore Details

LESSON ONE: Deborah, Come Back To Victory What?! A woman lead an army? Are you sure that’s in the Bible? Wait until your students hear about the dedication and courage of this mother in Israel. Step out of the hot desert sun and visit Deborah, the Judge, under the palms where she held court. Have a cool drink and relive her incredible story. Look around and see the remains of a great victory party and finally, understand the true victory that only God can give to people who Come Back to Him. LESSON TWO: Elijah, Come Back To God It’s not much farther. You can make it. It should be just around the next boulder. Lead your students up the path to the top of Mt. Carmel. Hear the story of “the Great Contest” retold by an energetic eye witness. In this corner…450 prophets of Baal. In this corner…Elijah. Good winning over evil through one man’s faithful obedience can never be matched by any fairy tale told today. You can almost smell the smoke and see the fire. All that is left is a broken down altar…a testimony to the power of God’s call to Come Back to Him. LESSON THREE: Naaman, Come Back To God’s Instructions You want me to do what? You’ve got to be kidding! Nothing doing! No way! Not me! Let’s go home, fellas! Well, maybe that’s paraphrasing just a little, but your students will get a powerful message from a man who had no intentions of following God’s instructions. Make yourself comfortable in the private chambers of the great commander of the armies of Aram. This heart-wrenching story is told by the Israelite servant girl taken into captivity by Naaman himself. The “manly” atmosphere and military effects tell of a man of pride and valor who must decide if he will Come Back to God’s Instructions. LESSON FOUR: Josiah, Come Back to The Book “The B-I-B-L-E, yes, that’s the book for me! I stand alone on the word of God, the B-I-B-L-E!” A Bible to call your own is one of those first time experiences that is very significant in the mind and heart of a child. From earliest ages children from Christian homes are taught to love and treasure God’s Word. Imagine the drama you can create as you tell of the Book that was lost and then was found. How exciting this lesson could be for children as they understand that the chief figure in this story became king at the age of eight! Help your student’s Come Back to the only book that counts, the B-I-B-L-E. LESSON FIVE: Nehemiah, Come Back To Work It’s Tool Time! Grab your hammer and saw and come on down! Depending on the daring and creativity of your story-teller, this seldom told story could be a blockbuster. Set it in Nehemiah’s time or do a “Tool Time Show” of your own with the kids as the “studio audience”. Whichever way you go, make it your aim to help your students catch the vision and thrill of doing God’s work. Come Back, to work. You’ll be glad you did.

LESSON FOUR: God’s Forever Family Remembers Together Move over, Indiana Jones! Crawl through a time tunnel to visit the Corinthian Church and share in the feast of remembrance, the Love Feast. This lesson examines the Lord’s Supper, then and now, in a fresh and personal way. Incredible Journey

The Old Testament book of Exodus tells the amazing story of Israel’s INCREDIBLE JOURNEY from captivity in Egypt to the land God had promised them. Moses and the stubborn Children of Israel teach us many important lessons as they escape captivity and journey through the wilderness to their destination, The Promised Land.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

LESSON ONE: An Incredible Mission On the bank of the Nile River, just a few steps from the Pharaoh’s palace, a now-grown servant of the Pharaoh’s daughter tells the story of Moses’ life. From his birth and river-basket ride into the Pharaoh’s daughter’s arms, to the burning bush on the side of Mt. Sinai, your students will see how God uses imperfect, insecure people, like Moses — and like them — to do His work and shape history. LESSON TWO: An Incredible God From Israel’s camp on the road to Mt. Sinai, Mariam, Moses’ sister tells the incredible story of how God freed His Children from their 400 year bondage to Egypt. The details of the plagues, and the miracle of the crossing of the Red Sea will engage your students’ imagination, as Miriam brings the story to life in this lesson. LESSON THREE: An Incredible Law Joshua (or Joshua’s wife) will welcome your students to a camp in disarray. Food, clothes and debris litter the camp site the day after the Golden Calf Incident. In a world where consequences seem to be a thing of the past, the message of Joshua’s story has special power: when you break God’s commands, you can be sure there are consequences. LESSON FOUR: Incredible Provision “Shhh. Welcome and come on in, but please be as quiet as you can. Most of the rest of the camp’s asleep. I don’t want to wake up Benjamin, over there. He’s just a bear when he’s awakened in the night. And he’s a light sleeper.” Your students will hear ol’ Ben snoring and see his legs sticking out from under his tent, but they won’t meet him. Around the midnight campfire of an Israelite’s camp site, your students will hear the amazing story of God’s Incredible Provision for His children as they traveled through the wilderness for 40 years. There was the manna, the quail, water from the rock, special provision for a unique way to win a battle. Even their clothes and sandals didn’t wear out in those 40 years. Your students will be challenged to remember that the same God who provided for the Children of Israel is at work to provide for them, today. LESSON FIVE: Incredible Stubbornness On the banks of the Jordan River, Caleb (or Caleb’s wife) tells the story of how, 40 years earlier, Israel’s Incredible Stubbornness had kept them out of the Promised Land. While sharpening his knife and working with his weapons to make sure he’s ready for the battles that lay ahead, Caleb tells of how only he and Joshua had believed God would do as He said, and bring them safely to the land He had promised them, in spite of giants and fortified cities. Your students will be challenged to transform their fears into faith, to meet the challenges God has for them, today.

D-Voted

D-Voted

What will your kids be devoted to? Good things, bad things, dangerous things, life-giving things? We want to help them be devoted to the right things and we’ve designed a week full of fun and learning to carry them along that path. We’re calling it D-voted.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

In this new series, we’ll examine five figures from the Bible who devoted themselves to the Lord. Be Strong and Courageous

Noah, Joseph, Joshua, David, Esther…what a hall of fame, or better yet, a cloud of witnesses, that are cheering our children on – admonishing them by their stories to BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS! Even the youngest children in today’s society are being faced with dilemmas that require courage to stand for God. In this lesson series, children can experience anew the heroic and powerful lives of these mighty Bible heroes. There’s not a Sunday School child (or adult, for that matter) alive who has not wondered what it would be like visiting the ark, standing before Pharaoh, seeing the walls of Jericho fall, facing a giant or standing as a beautiful queen before a throne. These lessons are full of Bible narrative and overflow with challenge and encouragement for a young generation to BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS.

Called

Take a look at the lives of five Old Testament Greats! Meet Father Abraham and learn about his faithfulness to God. Talk to Gideon who was called to be courageous. Sit down with Ruth to hear about what love is. Listen to Samuel tell about being called at young age. And don’t forget about Jonah who was called to Obedience. These are five lessons you don’t want to miss.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

LESSON ONE: Abraham, Called to Faithfulness “Father Abraham had many sons, many sons had Father Abraham. I am one of them and so are you…” Abraham, the father of the faithful. Come and sit in his tent. Gaze out at the night sky filled with stars. Feel the cool evening breeze. Hear about another night when God called his name. LESSON TWO: Gideon, Called to Courage “A sword for the Lord and Gideon…” Sound the call for courage. The Lord is on our side and that’s an unbeatable combination for life no matter who you are. Another night…another call…another man…hiding in a wine press. Gather around the campfire and hear how God turned this “zero” into a “hero”. LESSON THREE: Ruth, Called to Love Everyone loves a love story. Well, every girl does, anyway. “Wherever you go, I will go. Wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people and your God, my God.” What powerful words of love and commitment. Step into Ruth’s home. Love is all around. Relive her love story and hear your own call to love. LESSON FOUR: Samuel, Called for a Lifetime It’s the tabernacle, the holy tent of God. Not a place for children, you wouldn’t think. See the little bed, the candle on the stand, the little shoes and small coat. A young child must sleep here. Was there ever such a call in the night as this to such a little boy? Be amazed at this life long commitment. LESSON FIVE: Jonah, Called to obedience Whoa! Where are we? That was some time tunnel! It’s kind of dark and lumpy in here. Somebody turn on some more lights. What’s that smell, anyway? Take your students inside the belly of the great fish for a lesson on obedience they won’t soon forget.
